This is a solicitation for student scholarship combined with a celebratory event hosted by our Women’s Philanthropy program every year in April for the iconic Indiana University Little 500 Bicycle race. Women’s Philanthropy sponsors the same female bike team each year for the Women’s Little 500 race.
The audience consists of approximately 1,200 female donors, alumnae connected with the Women’s Philanthropy program, former female riders, former rider’s council members, and former student foundation leaders.
The purpose of the appeal is to raise funds for students currently participating in the Little 500 race (preference for women riders). The goal each year is to raise funds to award 5-6 scholarships of $5,000 each to go toward the student’s bursar account for tuition, etc.
A special/unique component is an invitation to attend the Women’s Philanthropy Tent Party prior to the beginning of the Women’s Little 500 race (on race day). Women’s Philanthropy hosts a gathering with appetizers and beverages, plus a brief welcome and announcement of the amount raised for scholarships and how many will be awarded during the awards banquet the week following the race.
