The Bush School, a K-12 progressive, independent school located in Seattle, WA, is in search of an individual to join our Development team as an Annual Giving Manager. We are seeking a candidate who can support the school’s mission of diversity and inclusion and who has a background that demonstrates an understanding and appreciation of intercultural fluency. We are building a team in which diversity of experiences, backgrounds, and talents are valued in order to work with a diverse community of students, faculty, staff and families. The Annual Giving Manager will advance the mission of The Bush School by strengthening relationships with the Bush community including donors and prospective donors; and being a collaborative member of the Bush Development Team. 

The Annual Giving Manager is part of the school’s Development team, reports to the Associate Director of Development, and works closely with all other members of the Development and Communication teams. This position will play a key role in leading the transition of the Development office towards a relationship-based model of building community through philanthropy to support the needs of the school. We are looking for a candidate who can further the school’s priorities of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), who hopes to build bridges and create connections through DEI work, and who has a background that displays and proves an understanding of intercultural fluency. 

The Annual Giving Manager will help raise critical support for the Annual Fund (the school’s unrestricted operating fund), work closely with and support volunteers, and help steward gifts in support of the school.

While other duties may be assigned, a qualified candidate will be able to manage the key responsibilities and tasks listed below:

Annual Fund Management 

  • Oversee the Annual Fund Parent Campaign including: Volunteer coordination, event management, solicitation letters and target ask amounts, internal school-wide bulletin communications, video planning, and development of collateral and branding.
  • Partner with the Director of Development and Associate Director of Development on solicitation meetings. 
  • Manage the Annual Fund Faculty & Staff Campaign: Recruit departmental volunteers, attend division meetings or opening meetings to spread the word about the Annual Fund, show the impact of giving to our Faculty and Staff community. 
  • Manage Annual Fund solicitations for all other constituencies (alumni, alumni parents, grandparents, former board of trustees, friends): Solicitation letters with solicitation amounts, stewardship and impact reporting.
  • Collaborate with Alumni and Donor Relations Manager on Alumni giving strategies, solicitations, and stewardship.
  • Provide monthly Annual Fund reports for committee and Board meetings.
  • Lead sponsorship efforts for annual events.
  • Manage the annual report and annual endowment reports.

Annual Giving Stewardship

  • Partner with Associate Director of Development to produce donor impact report emails. 
  • Partner with the Database Manager on Annual Fund acknowledgement letters, pledge reminders, and matching gift collection.

Annual Giving Strategy

  • Coordinate with Associate Director of Development around the integration of annual giving for major gift donors and the strategy surrounding. 
  • Coordination with annual fundraising event solicitations.
  • Collaboration with the Development team on overall giving strategy development.

Communications

  • Write articles and provide information for Experience Magazine (the school’s annual alumni publication).
  • Manage Gratitude, the school’s annual report.
  • Manage the collection and preparation of endowment impact stories and reports.
  • Work with Communications team on website updates for the Annual Fund page.

As a Member of the Bush Development Team

  • Promote a culture of building community through philanthropy; raise awareness and understanding of philanthropy among all constituencies.
  • Be an active and visible participant in the life of The Bush School.
  • Successfully complete other duties as assigned.

Experience and Professional Competencies:

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Strong work ethic, organized, punctual, and attention to detail; Ability to multitask and manage deadlines. 
  • Fluency in Google Drive and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Willingness to assume additional responsibilities as required.
  • Minimum of 2 years fundraising experience preferred.
  • Understanding of fundraising principles, methods, standards, and ethics.
  • Experience with data segmentations; understanding of fundraising software (preferably Raiser’s Edge), gift processing, and donor relations.
  • Demonstrated organizational and project management skills.  

Successful Candidates will:

  • Maintain a strong work ethic and attention to detail, with high standards of professionalism, organization, punctuality, confidentiality
  • Demonstrate resourcefulness and sound judgment in decision-making
  • Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Be highly proficient with Google Drive and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Have a working knowledge of donor databases, preferably Raiser’s Edge
  • Maintain a willingness to assume additional responsibilities, as required

Additional Requirements:

  • Have a current Adult and Children CPR, First Aid and AED Certification (or receive one soon after hire date).
  • Meet the school’s standards when completing two separate background screenings.
