The Assistant Director of Annual Giving is responsible for developing and implementing strategies to increase funding to Ohio Northern University, prioritizing the Northern Fund. This includes being detail-oriented, setting program goals, strategic planning abilities and possessing advanced interpersonal and communication skills. This position will recruit, organize and motivate student employees/interns to raise unrestricted gifts and increase participation in the annual fund. Evening and weekend work will be required. Other responsibilities include but are not limited to: event planning, direct mail, e-solicitations, texting, reunion/homecoming programming, crowdfunding and Day of Giving in coordination with the Director of Annual Giving.

The Assistant Director of Annual Giving will work collaboratively with the director of annual giving to manage annual giving fundraising efforts at Ohio Northern University. Job responsibilities include the development and implementation of strategies targeted at acquisition, retention, and reactivation of donors through various fundraising methods which may include, but are not limited to phone, direct mail, email, crowdfunding, texting, digital advertising, and in person solicitation.

  • Plan, implement, and provide metrics and reporting for a student worker/intern program to retain donors.
  • Recruit, hire, train, and supervise student employees/interns.
  • Facilitate daily, weekly and monthly pledge reminder process, texting campaigns, email solicitations and stewardship.
  • Offer student interns meaningful and educational opportunities to learn skills of fundraising, relationship management, and the impact of philanthropy
  • Lead digital engagement, virtual programs, or in-person events, including planning, implementation, and evaluation. Examples include, but are not limited to Day of Giving, Campus Campaign, Reunion/Homecoming programming, Annual Lehr Society Banquet.
  • Plan and implement donor acquisition, stewardship and retention efforts including, but not limited to, leadership annual giving, first time donors, faculty/staff giving campaign, digital marketing, direct mail, email, social media, texting, etc.
  • Update University Advancement database and provide constituent information and data updates as needed.
  • Research and develop student philanthropy awareness programs. Provide informational sessions to students about the importance of being philanthropic. Create a pipeline of future alumni donors.
  • Manage, market and support Crowdfunding program webpages and request process.
  • Oversee event and donation software. Create and manage event registrations. Build and monitor donation forms.
  • Assist with planning, organizing, marketing, and execution of Reunion/Homecoming programming.
  • Organize and facilitate the 50th reunion giving program.
  • Support Day of Giving through reviewing materials, timelines and day of event logistics.
  • Interpret and apply a variety of procedures, policies, and precedents. For example, managing requests for information from alumni and friends.
  • Develop a professional network of colleagues to conduct regular benchmarking and for a sounding board to test new initiatives or ideas.
  • Regularly communicate with constituents.
  • Manage and respond to delicate donor relations matters.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • One to three years related fundraising experience or equivalent required

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience using database applications, Blackbaud RENXT preferred
  • Experience managing student workers
  • Previous supervisory experience
  • Proficiency in Word, and Excel, and Google Suite products
  • Experience in a higher education setting
  • Ability to convert technical data into formal reports
  • Other duties as assigned
