The Highlights:

The assistant director of annual and special giving reports to the associate director and is responsible for project management and execution of annual giving direct mail to renew, retain, and acquire donors. This position will execute all aspects of direct mail outreach, including segmentation, vendor relationships, and serve as the primary writer for the department. This role will also oversee affinity giving, with a concentration on student and young alumni philanthropy which includes a small portfolio. 

What You’ll Do:

  •  Annual Giving Operations: 
    • Plan, organize, and manage the solicitation schedules and segmentation for direct mail. 
    • Write direct marketing appeals while working closely with the Associate Director to review and edit content. 
    • Draft email messaging for solicitations to coincide with direct mail appeals.
    • Develop and/or refresh materials for all aspects (direct mail, e-mail, social media, other) of the various fundraising initiatives facilitated by Annual and Special Giving.
    • Assist with management of internal and external direct marketing projects (giving days, etc).
    • Manage relationship with campus partners and outside vendors.
  • Affinity Giving:
    • Partner with OAR on student and alumni engagement to help build a culture of philanthropy. 
    • Create young alumni and student segmentation and initiatives to obtain new and lapsed donors via crowdfunding, texting, and email. 
    • Mange, solicit, and steward a portfolio of young alumni.  
    • Increase philanthropic engagement through affinity engagement. 
  • Reporting & Analytics – annual giving:
    • Lead reporting efforts that pertain to direct marketing and affinity giving using past data, develop and implement strategies for future efforts.

What You’ll Need:

  • Proven experience writing for multiple media platforms.
  • 2+ years of relevant marketing or annual giving experience.  
  • Demonstrated understanding of annual fund strategies.
  • Relevant experience with fundraising.
  • Strong analytical and marketing skills, as well as an ability to interpret complex data to inform strategy and decision-making.
  • Self-motivation and flexibility required in successful candidate.
  • Ability to work effectively within a team environment (independently and collaboratively).
  • Must be able to work with a varied constituency and handle time pressures during peak periods. 
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills; and the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously, with careful attention to detail.
  • Proven record of increasing revenue through traditional and digital fundraising. 
  • Experience in Scalefunder, Salesforce, Jango, Microsoft Office, Google Analytics, design software, or other marketing automation platforms is strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to train others in technical aspects of digital tools and platforms.
  • Must be able to work nights and/or weekends during certain times of the years.
