Director of Development for Athletics
Ball State University
Muncie, INIdentify, engage, and successfully solicit individuals for the purposes of securing major, principal, and planned gifts for Ball State Athletics; plan and implement ongoing major gift activities on behalf of Ball State Athletics in order to increase the number and size of private gifts.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide development leadership for Ball State Athletics by identifying, engaging and successfully soliciting individuals for major gifts towards annually determined fundraising goals, in conjunction with other development staff.
- Develop solicitation strategies for major gift donors by conducting research, identifying and prioritizing top prospective donors, creating plans for engaging donors with the Ball State Athletics, and establishing philanthropic relationships which lead to securing major gifts.
- Manage a portfolio of 100 (+/-15) with a minimum giving capacity of $25,000 or more to assist in meeting Foundation and Ball State Athletics fundraising goals.
- Provide overall administrative and managerial leadership for a major gift program on behalf of Ball State Athletics; leadership includes exercising independent judgment and initiative in creating comprehensive major gift strategies which are aligned with the fundraising priorities of the university and Athletics.
- Coordinate Ball State Athletics fundraising priorities, strategies, and plans for prospects with the Director of Athletics, Development staff, and other campus units.
- Leverage opportunities such as key University, Foundation, and Athletics events to maximize relationship building opportunities, and to effectively move prospects and donors through the qualification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship cycle.
- Manage and monitor donor relationships and prospects effectively; ensure appropriate call reports and documentation are properly recorded.
- Contact donors as needed for purposes of gift acknowledgement, stewardship, pledge fulfillment, and gift renewal.
- Promote information about giving societies and donor recognition to prospects and donors.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Education:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
Experience:
At least three years of experience in fundraising, athletics, or closely related area.
Willingness and ability to travel; possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and be insurable under the university’s auto fleet policy; ability to work as part of an organization without direct daily supervision; outstanding oral and written communication skills are necessary in order to articulate departmental and institutional viewpoints, goals, and needs.
