Position Summary

The purpose of the School of Law Advancement Program is to assist the School of Law in securing the resources, both human and financial, required to achieve its mission and goals. The department is responsible for the identification, solicitation, and stewardship of individuals and organizations whose charitable objectives are consistent with those of the school’s teaching, research, clinical, and community service programs. Establishing and nurturing meaningful, positive interactions with current and future alumni by providing opportunities for involvement, education, and communication with colleagues and School representatives is also a core responsibility of the department. Through the creation and nourishment of an environment that fosters positive and enduring relationships, Law Advancement can help produce reciprocal benefits for the school and its constituencies and promotes public good will.

Under the direct supervision of the Senior Director of Advancement, the Associate Director will have the following responsibilities:

Job Description:

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Direct Marketing Campaigns and Appeals

  • In close collaboration with our Advancement Communications and Annual Giving teams, plan and coordinate the management of direct marketing and solicitation projects for the School of Law.
  • Facilitate the proofing, editing, review, approval, and production processes for each appeal, as appropriate.
  • Develop segmentation strategy and other data variables needed for each campaign. Identify, document, and track all testing factors. Build campaign ‘workbooks’ to organize projects based upon appeal versions and audience segmentations. Support data set finalization, merge proofing and testing, and assist in resolving any data-related issues.
  • Secure final approval for all Annual Giving appeals; manage the ‘send’ process for all mass-email communications.

Reunion Giving Programs

  • Partner with the Senior Director on the planning, communications and logistical execution of a law school reunion giving program. This includes the first-year reunion campaign and the traditional 5-year milestone reunion programs.
  • Work to grow the Law Reunion Giving Program participation year over year, and class engagement and attendance, collaborating with fundraisers, other colleagues and faculty as appropriate, to best meet and advance the goals of Law Advancement.
  • Identify, recruit and manage reunion class volunteer leaders to achieve goals. Recruit and effectively manage reunion committee members for the April and May reunion celebrations, to achieve stated metrics.
  • Manage Reunion Giving program reporting, volunteer communications, and collaborate with Senior Associate Director of Alumni & Constituent Relations to ensure a sound, thoughtful and cohesive reunion communication plan.
  • Responsible for preparing all Reunion Giving related materials, to include creating and producing communications through the website, email, social media and other mediums.

Class Gift Campaign

  • Under the supervision of the Senior Director, oversee the Class Gift Campaign, ensuring metrics are met or exceeded, early exposure to the importance of philanthropy, building student relationships with Law Advancement, and ensuring a positive experience that enhances Advancement’s reputation with students, making them look forward to becoming active, engaged alumni.

Stewardship

  • Lead the strategy and implementation of direct marketing campaigns focused on annual donor retention, including monthly renewal reminders, specific ‘year-end’ efforts, and lead volunteer and staff phonathon-type internal events.
  • Manage scholarship process in coordination Sr. Associate director for Alumni Relations and Stewardship.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Working knowledge of Washington University School of Law. 
  • Candidates with direct experience with Law School advancement work, as are those with experience with annual fund, phonathon and volunteer management.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully navigate a complex, intellectually rigorous work environment.
  • Superior organizational skills.
  • Exemplary oral and written communication skills, and the ability to articulate the needs, interests and accomplishments of the School of Law to a wide range of audiences are required.
  • Candidates must also be detail-oriented, have the capacity to perform in an intellectually rigorous and complex environment.
  • Exhibit personal characteristics enabling effective interaction with important constituencies. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel spreadsheets.
  • Ability to manage multiple complex projects at once are necessary and essential skills.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Minimum of three years of related experience.

Salary Range:

$57,300.00 – $97,700.00 / Annually

The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one’s qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
