Assistant Director Donor Relations

Reporting to the Director of Donor Relations, the Assistant Director plays an integral role within the team and provides donor impact reports, collaborates on university-wide and program-specific stewardship events, and partners with Georgia State’s colleges and units on high-touch stewardship initiatives. The mission of Donor Engagement and Communications (DEC) is to create a philanthropic culture that will lead to increased charitable support for Georgia State University and its students, faculty, and staff. The office of Donor Relations seeks a collaborative and enthusiastic Assistant Director to help build stewardship programs that strengthen the relationship between Georgia State University’s donors and the institution.

Responsibilities: 

  • Events Management: Plans and executes high-level, donor-centric events for the University’s premier alumni/donor group, the Presidents Society, to create meaningful VIP and donor stewardship experiences. Serves as departmental point person for Donor Relations events throughout the year by managing the planning process, collaborative work assignments, and execution of event tasks.
  • Donor Communications Programs: Provides project management for Advancement communications efforts to enhance program visibility among internal and external constituencies. Implements procedures that provide comprehensive reporting to donors, including managing communications projects and adhering to deadlines. Examples of communications pieces include the Report on Giving, impact reports, Georgia State Day stewardship, and Presidents Society outreach efforts. Creates content for the various stewardship communications and publications. Performs regular analytics of giving data to create targeted communications to segmented groups within the donor population.
  • Data Segmentation & Analytics: Performs regular analytics of giving data through Raiser’s Edge to create targeted communications to segmented groups within the donor population. Monitors the giving levels of donors as they approach the Presidents Society level. Creates reports, queries, mailing lists and other database outputs in support of Donor Relations activities.
  • Department Liaison: Serves as a liaison to 3-4 college/units on behalf of the DEC department. Meets and communicates regularly with development officers to discuss specific college/unit strategies.

Qualifications: 

Bachelor’s degree in a related field and three years of experience required; or a combination of education and related experience. Strong correspondence writing skills required. University events management skills preferred.

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Knowledge and/or prior use of fundraising and donor management software like Raiser’s Edge/Financial Edge or similar software.
  • Entrepreneurial spirit, positive attitude and energy to implement new strategies and meet ambitious goals.
  • Experience in higher education and/or nonprofit organization events management.
  • Familiarity with graphic design programs (Adobe Creative suite), website design and print production.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of individuals and constituencies, including C-Suite Executives, University Administrators, Faculty and others.

Final candidates will complete and submit a writing sample based on a donor gift scenario.
