Reporting to the Vice President for the University Advancement Division (UAD), the Director of Development serves, along with the Assistant Vice President of Advancement Operations, the Director of Alumni Relations, and the Director of Strategic Partnerships and Corporate Engagement, as a member of the Division’s Leadership Team and an active participant in strategic planning and decision making affecting philanthropic support and constituent engagement. The Director is responsible for the management and operation of a comprehensive development program for the University, including, but not limited to, programs in major gift solicitation, annual giving, planned giving, corporate and foundation relations, prospect research, telemarketing, and other development activities such as capital campaign and constituent based fundraising. The Director serves as the Division’s Chief Major Gifts Officer, leading the development team and providing effective direction, motivation, and mentorship to ensure fundraising success. In addition, the incumbent will interact with department Chairs, Deans and senior administrators to develop a strategic vision and implement a plan in efforts to support and achieve goals and objectives to meet the operating needs of the Foundation and the University. Perform other related tasks and special projects as assigned.

Required Education: Bachelor’s degree required. Advanced degree preferred.

Required Related Experience: Demonstrated proficiency in personally soliciting and securing six and seven figure gifts, preferably for higher education, with a minimum of six (6) years of comprehensive fundraising management experience. Two (2) years of the total six (6) years experience must have been in a supervisory capacity. Must be results oriented with excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills. Successful managerial experience in a team-oriented environment within a complex organizational structure, integrating supervisory, budgeting, and strategic planning skills. Must be computer literate and work well with varied constituents. Ability to travel is required.

Desirable Related Experience: Preference given to those with experience in higher education.
