Upstream Alliance is an environmental nonprofit located in Annapolis, MD, that seeks a Director of Development who will be responsible for the planning, coordination and management of day-to-day operations for UA’s annual operating, programmatic and capital needs. Upstream Alliance works to achieve healthier watersheds by connecting people with its wildlife and history; conserving landscapes and rivers; and restoring its natural resources.

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of five years of significant, successful fundraising and management experience; a record of achievement in cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding major gifts from individuals and foundations; excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and experience with outdoor expeditions. Work is a combination of remote and in person work, with numerous in person meetings, events and expeditions required in the Mid-Atlantic region. Salary and benefits are competitive.

The Director of Development will be responsible for:

• Building and managing a sustainable annual giving program.
• Managing the major gift program to engage individuals, corporations, and foundations.
• Managing the public grants process in conjunction with private, corporate, and foundation funding efforts to include grant applications and reporting.
• Developing and managing fund raising program expense budgets.
• Engaging UA program staff in the development process.
• Developing communications materials used for development such as documents and multimedia.
• Working with the leadership team to provide consistency between development and communications efforts to help expand UA’s image, and overall base of support regionally and nationally.
• Organizing fundraising events and assisting with outdoor events and expeditions.
