Vice President for Institutional Advancement
Harcum College in Bryn Mawr, PA is seeking an accomplished senior leader to head Institutional Advancement serving as Vice President for Institutional Advancement. The position reports directly to the President serving as a Cabinet member, working closely with an active Board of Trustees.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Report to President of Harcum College and actively collaborate with the Board of Trustees to develop fundraising strategies to achieve the vision and mission of Harcum College. Create and execute a fundraising plan with financially sound goals.
- Engage and communicate with the President and Board of Trustees on progress, direction and critical matters; consistently advise and recommend tactics for continuous improvement.
- Establish structure for the Office of Institutional Advancement that consists of major gifts, annual fund raising, scholarships, grants & foundations, and alumni relations.
- Instills best business practices and inspires employees to be engaged and committed to the mission and College. Supervise a staff consisting of Assistant VP-Development, Director of Alumni Relations, and Assistant Director of Grants & Advancement Administration.
- Embrace the College’s mission and enthusiastically participate in fundraising as a visible, passionate representative.
- Positively and proactively create new initiatives and implement creative ways to motivate donors and alumni to successfully solidify significant relationships.
- Ensure a fundraising plan that guarantees public awareness and support for the vision and mission of Harcum with the goal of attracting donors, alumni and supporters for maximum benefit for the students.
- Act as the primary spokesperson in fundraising matters to gain support from all constituencies: Initiate and preserve positive relationships with all business, community and education principals.
- Manage a significant annual budget with sound fiscal practices. Use resources prudently to ensure priorities are met.
- Build an environment that values others, acknowledges diversity and works collegially throughout the college.
Qualifications:
The ideal CAO candidate will have:
- Minimum of five years prior successful management experience in development or a comparable leadership position.
- Minimum of a bachelor’s degree, experience in higher education, and experience with/interest in serving colleges with a strong focus on career-informed education. Graduate level degree or advanced education is desirable.
- Proven leadership capability with demonstrated growth accomplishments; solid understanding of fundraising, donor engagement, and alumni relations.
- Experienced at contributing to and executing an effective fundraising strategy; Successful track record securing 5-6 figure gifts/grants ($100,000+). Comfortable interacting with prospective donors and making the ask. Capital campaign experience desired.
- History of creative problem solving, participative style, known for being a results oriented leader who works effectively and cooperatively with senior staff.
- Working knowledge of Greater Philadelphia Region philanthropic leaders and beyond.
- A ‘hands on’ approach to performing the functions of this position at a small, independent college.
- Skilled at effectively and succinctly presenting substantive information to the Board; responds to inquiries in a timely manner.
- Articulate, credible communicator; listens actively and responds properly; professional image and charismatic presence; tactful and authentic.
- Highest integrity, honesty, and solid judgment with the ability to recognize and appreciate the talents and contributions of others.
- Energetic and flexible with the ability to meet the needs of a demanding schedule.
- Willing to make a multi-year commitment to the accomplishment of Harcum’s vision and mission.
