Assistant Dean of Development for the College of Engineering

Reporting to the Assistant Vice President of Development for the Sciences and Dean of the College of Engineering, the Assistant Dean of Development for the College of Engineering will cultivate and manage relationships with new and prospective donors, including identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding those with capacity for gifts of $50,000 and higher. The Assistant Dean will work closely with Institutional Advancement central operations in aligning unit-based priorities with those of institutional leadership. Serves on the Dean’s administrative leadership team and creates and implements strategies designed to support the funding of the College of Engineering’s recent strategic plan and the Dean’s priorities. Interacts with senior staff and faculty in the College as well as other colleagues throughout Temple University. In addition, the Assistant Dean will have oversight and management responsibilities of the development and alumni relations staff in the College. Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree; and at least seven years fundraising and/or sales experience. Demonstrated experience closing 6+ figure gifts. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Excel and Access.
  • Ability to organize multiple projects and work in an environment including diverse groups of faculty, staff, alumni, donors, and students.
  • Must be a highly energetic, organized and enthusiastic professional with a track record of building donor relationships.
  • Ability to take initiative to work collaboratively and strategically, with a strong knowledge of principles, ethics and practices of successful fundraising.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills along with the ability to interact with a diverse group of constituents both inside and outside the university.
  • Knowledge of planned giving techniques and programs available to implement such gifts.
  • Entrepreneurial skills in identifying donors, cultivating meaningful relationships, and constructing creative gifting opportunities and agreements.
  • Demonstrated creativity and strategic thinking with the ability to take initiative and the willingness to learn
  • Ability to make policy decisions when necessary, multi-task, set priorities, adapt to changes and meet deadlines
  • Ability to understand and work with budgetary procedures and policies.
  • Willingness and ability to travel and work evening and weekend hours.
  • Must exhibit a strong intellectual curiosity, and proficiency in active listening.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be a positive thinker, and strong team leader and player.

Preferred:

  • Master’s degree and higher education fundraising experience.
