Vice President for Advancement
Overview
The Vice President for Advancement has overall responsibility for the development, planning, implementation and evaluation of the University’s advancement programs and activities. This includes overseeing all of the university’s fundraising, public relations, marketing activities, governmental affairs, media outreach, alumni relations, community outreach and all other ways the university engages with its external constituents.
Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, manage, and monitor a strategic plan for fundraising activities including annual giving, endowment and capital campaigns, planned giving, as well special events and communications that build relationships with constituency base.
- Serve as lead development officer, managing short-and long-term university development plans.
- Manage all strategies and activities for donor cultivation, solicitation, and relations
- Maintain contact with and develop grant proposals for foundations and corporations.
- Develop a comprehensive planned-giving program.
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with alumni, focusing effort toward and/or developing proposals for potential donors and hosting/sponsoring recognition presentations to key donors.
- Cultivate, advance and maintain long-term relationships with donors, and coordinate solicitation, receipt and management of private gifts to the university.
- Provide research, event, prospect management and stewardship support for the university.
- Coordinate development-related volunteer boards and activities.
- Build and strengthen relationships with Board members.
- Develop fundraising training for Board members and other leadership volunteers.
- Promote a positive image and positive external relations for the University.
- Develop strategies to support the University’s image and reputation, enrollment and advancement goals with both internal and external constituents including:
- Advertising/marketing
- Strategic media relations
- Crisis communications
- Website management
- Social media
- Community outreach/awareness
- Oversee the planning, organization, direction and coordination of all aspects of Touro University Nevada’s external relations, communications, marketing, media relations and community outreach programs, closely integrating them with its fundraising initiatives.
- Provide leadership of the University’s governmental affairs activities including the coordination of consultants/lobbying firms on initiatives and advocacy efforts brought forward to the Nevada State Legislature and other state and federal governmental agencies.
- Provide overall leadership in development, implementation and evaluation of a comprehensive alumni relations program that inspires increased alumni engagement and support of the University.
- Communicate and interact with city, state, and other officials in matters related to institutional advancement; Represent the CEO and Senior Provost and the University in various campus , community, state and regional activities designed to promote Touro university Nevada in particular and higher education in general.
- Develop strategies to support the University’s image and reputation, enrollment and advancement goals with both internal and external constituents including:
- Develop, implement, manage and administer an overall strategic plan and annual budget for the Advancement Office.
- Review and approve unit plans, goals and objectives; design systems of effective controls to guide work toward expected outcomes and evaluating progress towards their accomplishment. Monitor, develop and evaluate staff performances in meeting goals and objectives
- Establish clearly defined goals, objectives, timeframes and metrics for fundraising including annual giving, endowment and capital campaigns, planned giving, as well as special events and communications that build relationships with the University’s various constituents.
- Provide oversight and responsibility for all Advancement budgets including coordinating the development of the annual budget, monitoring expenditures, approving expenses and retaining authority over all departmental budgets within the office of Advancement.
- Develop policies and procedures for effective, ethical operations of the Advancement Office
- Act as a clearing house for all fundraising activities among student clubs/organizations
- Represent the university with community organizations and at community functions as needed.
- Liaison with Touro system advancement officials regularly and represent Touro University Nevada in system-wide advancement/communications planning.
- Advise the CEO and Senior Provost, senior University administrative officers and members of the Advisory Board on issues relating to the University development and advancement by making presentations at meetings and preparing reports, recommendations, finding and other correspondence as required
- Plays a leadership role as a member of Touro University of Nevada’s senior management team
- Serve on various University committees, as directed by the CEO and Senior Provost
- Other duties may be assigned.
Qualifications
- Education: Baccalaureate degree required
- Experience: Minimum of 7 years of advancement experience (including fundraising and resource development) and a minimum of 3 years with an institution of higher education. Demonstrated experience as a senior-level advancement professional. Proven record of substantial fundraising success in major/planned gifts, corporate gifts, personal solicitations and grant writing.
- Experience developing and maintaining productive working relationships with constituents, including alumni, and experience with strategic planning, budgeting, non-profit development programs, and/or planning and directing an institution’s overall Advancement effort including fundraising, alumni relations, marketing and public relations.
Skills & Abilities:
- Demonstrated track record of cultivation and closing significant major gifts
- Ability to develop effective partnerships with internal and external constituencies; Demonstrated ability to gain trust and confidence with colleagues and constituents;
- Ability to work with people from a variety of culturally diverse backgrounds.
- Broad knowledge of the philanthropic community and technological tools, resources, and best practices in Advancement.
- Demonstrated abilities in written and verbal communications, interpersonal skills, critical thinking and creative problem-solving.
- Willingness to travel when needed and to attend events and participate in meetings with volunteers and donors on evenings and weekends.
- Detail-oriented with the ability to plan, organize, multi-task, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
