Description

Oversee and direct the fundraising activities for the School of Medicine (SOM); primarily a major/planned giving officer reporting to the AVP for University Advancement and working closely with the Dean of the School of Medicine. The office will be located in the School of Medicine, and the Dir of Philanthropy SOM will be a member of the Dean’s leadership team. The Dir of Philanthropy SOM must possess a thorough knowledge of fundraising vehicles, demonstrated major gift experience, knowledge of planned giving, and campaign experience, as well as the ability to interact and communicate professionally and manage the entire fundraising process for the unit in order to obtain private support at the highest level possible. Position will attend both SOM and University Advancement meetings on a weekly/monthly basis to coordinate efforts between the two units as the primary liaison.In addition, the Director of Philanthropy SOM will provide leadership and strategy for building the OUWB Advisory Board. This board will be managed at the direction of the Dean SOM and assisted by the Director of Philanthropy SOM.The primary job function is for the Director of Development SOM to work diligently through the portfolio. In addition, Director of Development SOM must discover, engage, and cultivate new relationships within the community that could positively impact the fundable opportunities within the School of Medicine.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
  • A minimum of five years progressively responsible experience in development and fundraising.
  • Demonstrated success in obtaining gifts of $25,000 and above with a focus on six and seven-figure gifts.
  • Knowledge of the computer and its application to development and fundraising activities.
  • Experience working with volunteers.
  • Experience working with various Boards.
  • Excellent organizational and analytical skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with others.
  • Understanding of Contact Management Resource platforms.
