Director of Annual Giving
Role of the Position
The Director of Annual Giving, a leader in UNLV’s engagement and fundraising team, will play a critical role across an integrated program and is responsible for much of the multi-channel solicitations of a global constituency of 120,000+ alumni, and thousands of parents and friends with a focus on raising funds to support all university designations.
The Director of Annual Giving proactively administers the long and short-term strategies for annual giving at the leadership level for the university, defined as annual gifts up to $25,000 to include the acquisition, renewal, upgrading and stewarding of these gifts based on donor interest and passion to the University.
He/she will recommend, develop and oversee specialty programs and projects, such as 1957 Society Stewardship Luncheon, Suite Deal, etc. carry a portfolio of leadership annual giving prospects and is responsible for individual and team fundraising of over $2M+ in cash and pledges for the university, and serve as the lead strategist for and is a subject matter expert on annual giving. The Director builds strong relationships with Directors of Development, alumni engagement staff, partners within the Division of Philanthropy of Alumni Engagement and across campus to develop, assess, message and document meaningful leadership annual giving donor opportunities that will strengthen the major gift donor pipeline. He/she serves as the staff liaison to the Philanthropy committee of the UNLV Alumni Association Board of Directors.
The Director sets metrics and benchmarks; researches and develops best practices and tools; conducts quarterly portfolio reviews for LAG officers; and manages program needs including data, tracking, and performance. Reporting to the Senior Director of Administration, Communications and Annual Giving, the Director supervises a team of two full-time fundraising professionals.
The Director of Annual Giving is responsible for the development and management of strategic program plans and budgets for the unrestricted and restricted Annual Giving program, which includes 1957 Society (leadership annual giving), Scarlet Streak (consecutive giving), Scarlet Loyal (UNLV alumni recognition) and faculty/staff campaigns.
It is expected that the Director attends campus events, stewardship events and occasionally attends community events as a representative of UNLV.
Required Qualifications:
This position requires a Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university and a minimum of 5 years of previous experience in fundraising/annual giving or similar business experience. A mimnimun of 2 years of supervisory experience is required. Candidate should possess superior interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills. Must have excellent attention to detail, and professionalism in all interactions. Skills to work independently while, at the same time, working well collectively and collaboratively with colleagues to achieve common goals. This position may require travel and working outside of the 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. work day and on weekends. This position requires a background check.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Experience with the creation of strategic and solicitation program plans, departmental budgets, project and analyze revenue streams. Ability to manage, motivate, and evaluate employees. Highly developed interpersonal networking skills. Confidence with public speaking and representing the University at community and business functions. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Knowledge of standard personal computer equipment and related software programs. Ability to use fundraising database and spreadsheet software programs such as Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge and Excel.
Salary Range
Salary range – $83K – $89K DOE Salary competitive with those at similarly situated institutions. Position is contingent upon funding.
